PIGEON MATCH AT TE AROHA.
Thk Pigeon Match which was got up by Mr W. li. Knock, came otf on Saturday last at the old racecourse, and attracted a larpe concourse of people, not only local residents, but also from Morrinsvillc, Waihou, Mataraata, and Wainrongomai. The weather was fine, and though at first the birds were slow in rising from the trips the shooting was very pond and close, as well be see by the following scores ; 5 birds each, handicap :—
J. Wood, with a total of S, won the first prize. Simpson, Jones, and Pilling, havinpr 7 each, shot otf three birds extra for the 2nd prize. Simpson scored 1, Jones 4, and Pilling 3. Jones was therefore 2nd and Pilling 3rd. A sweepstake of 5s each was afterwards shot off, for which there were Sentries, and resulted as follows : Kendall scored 0, Turnbull 0. Murphy G, Marshall 3, and Gordon 4. The tivo highest divided the stakes.—Tβ Aroha News.
