(B? TELEGRAPH. — OWN COBKKSPO.VDSXT). Auckland, Last Night. At the Police Court, this morning, Charles Tuck, who has held the position as Clerk and Treasurer to the PiakoOonnty Council, was brought bef»re Dr. Giles, on two charges of alleged embezzlement. The charge set out that on 2nd August, 1892, at Cambridge, being then clerk and treasurer to the chairman, councillors and inhabitants of the County of Piako, he did receive and tako into his possession a sum of £5 in money, and the same did then and them feloniously aud fraudulently emtezzle. There was also a second charge against accused, that on sth July, 1892, at Cambridge, being Clerk and Treasurer of the County of PUko, he embezzled the sum of £5. Mr Buddie appeared on behalf of the Audit Department, and said he was not in a position to go on with the charzes to-day, as evidence had to be got from Te Aroha, and he asked that accused be remanded for eight days'. Dr. Giles asked accused if he had anything to say, and accused asked to be liberated on bail. Mr Buddie stated that lie hud no objection and Dr. G-iles granted bail to accused himself in £100 and two sureties of £00 each.
