A CORRECTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sik,— Jn your issue of the ISth instant, your Whatawhata correspondent analysed the present valuation of the Newcastle Road District and stated that it was £9,800 more than the valuation made in ISB9, and then proceeded to show the decrease in the valuation of the several other richer districts in the Waipa County and saying that the ratepayers ought to feel gratified at the increase in the value of_ their district, but that the payment of £51 extra in rates per annum deserved additional consideration. Had your correspondent looked at the rolls ' supplied the Council (of which he is a member) of ISS9 and 15.02 for the Newcastle Road. District he would find that the valuation of 1889 was £63.631 and that the valuation of 1892 is £63,033 which bein K deducted from the valuation of 7SS9 would leave a decrease balance of £597 for the new Newcastle Road District. This course would have been much easier for your correspondent than to have: calculated the amount of rates which would accrue on a fabulous balance which: does not exist, and so avoid misrepresentation. By kindly inserting this you will oblige.—Yours etc. William Jones. Clerk, Newcastle Road Board.
