IMPLEMENT TRIAL AT PUKEKURA.
On Monday last trials of Messrs Elder Brothers' new "Sulky Gane " plough, with riding seat, built uium the American model, an American " Bluo Beard "single furrow plough, and the " Diamond Clipper " plough, were held at Mr Richard Reynolds' farm. Trenurne, Pukekura, he kindly supplying horses and men to work the implements. There was a good attendance, nearly every district of Waikato being represented. At the request of Mr W. K. Klder.Mr Reynolds superintended the trials, and he cerUinlv gave the implements a thornigh trial, ii <ttiiiK bis coat and personally testing the; amiabilities of tlio various machines. The ploughs wore first put to throw a deep heavy furrow on u very stiff piece of lea land, and they got over the ground well, and apparently with a light draft. Then skimming was tried ami again the ploughs gave satisfaction. A modification in the shape of the points of the of the " Sulky " plough was suggested by some of the farmers present, for ground that is full of vegetation. The feature of these implements is the short inould board and share combined of highly polished steel; the mould board being somewhat the same as in the common digging plough pattern but of more highly tempered lr.etal. The riding «ent of the "Sulky" met witli the approval of many, one individual remarking: "You see the ploughman sits up there and drives, and at the end of the day is ready to do another half day's work." Mr R. Reynolds was so well satisfied with the work done by the "Sulky Gang" plough that he ordered one. The doublefurrow plough may be seen at work at Mr Reynolds' for. .a few days, and the single furrow ones are on exhibition at tha Hi-ores of Messrs Souter and Co., grain merchants, Cambridge, they having been appointed Messrs Elder's agents. Messrs Booth, McDonald and Co's spading harrow was also on the ground and Mr Reynolds kindly provided horses and a thorough trial was given this implement, nDder the superintendence of Mr Greig. Mr Reynolds also exhibited a very handy and compact grubber on a new principal—somewhat after the hay-rake pattern—and the work it did was much admired, the weeds being lifted and cleanly left on the surface of tho ground. Tho implements all met with very keen criticism during the day, but thise dresent expressed themselves satisfied, and thanked Mr Reynolds for having arranged the trial and thus giving farmers the chance of thoroughly testing the various new implements that are in the district.
