'i'he newly-appointed clerk and wharfinger to the Raglan County Council, Mr W. J. Conradie, has taken up his duties. Our Auckland correepondent wired last night that Dr. Honey man had resolved to acquire St. Paul's Church site and present it to the City of Auckland. The annual election of three councillors for the Borough of Cambridge will be held on Thursday, Bth September. Nominations will be received np to noon of Thursday, 30th inst. Mr J. B. Somerset having resigned his position as clerk, etc., fo the Raglan County Council, a record of the proceedings at the late meeting was taken by Mr James Black, of Ngaruawahia, who acted as secretary pro. tern. We understand that Mr T. H. White, architect, has received carte blanche from Mr James Harker, jeweller, Hamilj ton, for the decorating of his shop. Mr White has been engaged during the last day or two in preparing designs, &e. We would remind our readers of the sales of lands which are advertised by Mr John Knox for to«day. These include several domain leases in Hamilton Eadt, a valuable residence in Hamilton West, a farm at Pukete, and tho volunteer reserve near Frankton. We notice that Messrs W J. Hurst and Co. have disposed of their Ohaupo business to Messrs W. Souter and Co. grain merchants Cambridge, whose name has been identified in the Waikato with Suttons'seeds. The store* at Ohaupo will be opened on the Ist September under the new management. The following tenders for supplies in connection with the erection of the show yards at Claudelands, for the ensuing Agricultural and Pastoral Show, were received by the executive committee :—Gate hinges, per pair, Miuiro, 4s Gd; G. Pearson, 5s sd; T. Slade, 3s 9d (accepted). Timber, rimu, per 100 feet, Kusabs, 8s; Maunder, 7s Gd (accepted). A concert and ball will be given in the Town Hall, Ngaruawahia, on Friday next, 26th inst., in aid of the school funds. A capital programme has been arranged, consisting of a play by the school children, a concert, and a comediotta by the Ngaruawahia Dramatic Company. The whole will conclude with a dance. The programme of the Waikato Hunt Club races, to be held at Claudelands. Hamilton East, on Saturday, October Bth, has been\passed by the Auckland Racing Club, and is published iu this issue. Seven events are net down for discussion, the principal being the Hunt Club .Steeplechase, of SOaoys. Nominations close ou the 17th September, and the weight* will appear on the 20th September. A meeting of the Cambridge ratepayer* is called by the Mayor of the Bowugh for Wednesday next, in the Public Hall at 7.30 p.m. to discuss the matter of what are stated to be encroathments upon Victoria-street. The meeting is called iu response to a petition, signed by Mr Jno. Gwynneth and 24 other ratepayers (including six members of the Borough Council), requesting him to call the meeting for the above purpose. The question of encroaching upon streets has caused considerabln talk in Cambridge of late, and from what we learn there will probably be some very plain talk indulged in at the meeting, and it bids fair to be of a very lively description. Mr Knox, yesterday, held one of the most extensive sales of drapery, clothing, &c., en account of "Messrs Gonsargo Bros., of Manchester, England, that have ever taken place in Hamilton. The goods were opened up for inspection early yesterday, and the sale commenced shortly before two o'clock, Th6re were a large number of buyera present, who availed themselves of tho opportunity to secure genuine bargains. Every line submitted was knocked down—no matter what the bid might be—regardless of cost. The quality of the foods was pronounced by the ladies as being by far the ! i best ever offered by auction in Hamilton. All articles being what they were represented to be, there was no fiction about it. The sale will be continued to-day and again on Monday, starling both : daye punctually • a* 11 v'clock.

This piece hat been in rehearsal for some time, and we are sure it will be stuped in the same excellent manner which has characterised former productions by this company. The moon will be at its full, so country settlers will have an opportunity of attending.
