THE LATE STUD SHEEP SALES IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
From the Sydney Mail we learn that the annual stud sheep sales, recently held in Sydney, were characterised by a slight decline in prices as compared with those obtained last year. The total number of sheep catalogued, including some 221 imported German and American Merinos, amounted to 3,239. These averaged £7 5s lid per sheep, as against £8 Is lid per head last year. Still some good sales were made. The Hon. H. R. Roberts gave G3O guineas for Mr James Gibson's (Tasmania) Golden Horn 11. The Hon. G. H. Cox obtained 570 guineas for an iinpoited Vermont ram, and a number of others brought lower, but still very handsome prices. Perhaps the most interesting featuro of the late stud sales was the keen demand exhibited when the Longwools were put up for competition, the average price for being about saven guineas, while Lincolns did much batter, two imported Dudding rams making £54 12s each, local stud Lincolns averaging £16 lis 3d. Southdown and Hampshire Downs made a poor sale, as —although many admired this breed—the Lincolns and Leicesters are preferred now that chilling works are being established all over the colony. There is a very general opinion that future catalogues will be distinguished by much larger entries of these breeds.
