In spite of tho extra cost of another day's racing at Christinas, without any additional assistance from the members , the Club has been able to hold its own, the profits for the year being £121 odd, which has been spent in improving the course and i buildings such as new totalisator house, b pony stand, enlarging the saddling pad- , dock, new hurdles and jumps, coat of paint for grand stand (the cost of doing tho work having appeared in the previous year s account"). Of arrears due to the Club (at i tho time of closing the books), some £15 I has come in since and others are being got ■ in steadily, and now that tho racing season f :s starting again will be recovered before the f summer meeting comes on. Nono of these > arrears have been written off yet as wo do ' not anticipate any loss on them. The 1 stakes paid away ara some £320 more than j the previous year and considering that as 1 mentioned before, the members gave no > extra assistance, it tends to show that the E Club has grown in favour with both the i public and horseowners. The various items ■ of the balance sheet will he explained by 1 the secretary to any member wishing to ; know more about them. The first business to do at this meeting will be to clect six membets of committee for the onsuing year, the retiring members being Messrs Edge- ' cumbe, Hay, McNicol, Barton, Booth, and 1 SV, Cussen. all of whom together with ! Messrs O'Neill and McCullagh, have been nominated for election. The next business 1 will be to consider a notice of motion by | Mr C. J. W. Barton, re increasing the amount of subscription for membership. ■- ' Mr McNicol said that the one i/em in the ' balance sheet that displeased him va j the ' item of arrears due, viz., £154.—The 1 Secretary explained that only £10 was ' due for subscriptions, the remainder ' being for nominations, etc. Mr 1 1 . W. [ Browning proposed that the report and balance sheet as read be confirmed, be- | conded by Mr E. C. Shepherd, and carried unanimously. CoMMITTKE. —A ballot being taken for I coniinitt.ce for the ensuing year, renilt'd as follows :—G. Edgecumbe, 28: J. McNicol, ' 28 •C. .f. W. Barton, 27 :G. F. McCullagh, !. 20; L. O'Neill, 21; W. Booth. 20; W, M. • Hay, 19 ; W. Cussen, 4. The first six were . declared elected. , Subscriptions. -In accordance with r notice given, Mr Barton moved that Rule i V. he alt-red to read " The annual subscrip- | tion be two guineas instead of the guinea, I as at present. He said that the value ot the privileges given is quite diaproporl tionate to the subscription. At present the privileges which a member obtains would ! cost a noil-member £3 3s. Me thought | that now another day's racing had been ) provided, members should not grudge r to put their hands in their pocket to help i to pay for it.—Mr O'Neill seconded the motion.—Mr Coates moved, as an amendment, that the annual subscription be a ' guinea and a-half.-Seconded by Mr ' Browning.—Mr E. C. Shepherd said he 1 considered the proposed stop would be a f backward one. The object was to make • the club a universal South Auckland ' and to do this the subscription should be i kept as low as possible.—Mr J. al -ycol • supported Mr Barton's motion, and .-aid the • club was giving too many pnvileges for ■ membership.—Mr R. E. Sandos who was an ■ original member of the club, said the feeling . at first was that the membership fee was too low, but as the club was only in its infancy it was fixed at the guinea with the idea of raising it to the two guineas at as 5 early a date as possible.—Mr Dyer spoke I in favour ot tho amendment, and Mr ' Swarbrick iu favour of the motion. —Mr ■ Barton having replied, the amendment was J put and carried, the voting being : J* l ' l ' s 17 ; against, 7. The motion was lost, ana the i amendment being the substantive motion 1 was declared carried. Thanks.—A vote of thanks was acl corded to the secretary for the efficient manner in which he had carried out his duties during the yaar.—A vote of thanks to the chair concluded tho meeting. At a subsequent meeting of the comi rr.ittee, Mr Edeecumbe wai elected chairr man for the onsuing year.
