Owing to the groat length of the debate which ha.s put a .stop to all other business the Legislative Council has adjourned fora week by which time it is expected the House will imvo some business ready for the consideration of the " Lords." EXCESSIVE VALUATIONS. The charge made in the House by Mr Thomas McKonzie against the Government with respect to excessive valuation was repeated last night by Mr Valentine, who said that Government assessors had been instructed to value certain properties highly, and as an example cited the case of the Ibbffcion Estate in Southland, which was valued by the α-ssessor at £38,000, and on objection was reduced by the reviewers to £18,000. NATIVE LEGISLATION. Several influential natives, in an interview with Mr Cad man last night, asked the Native Minister to allow them to be entrusted with the control of their own affairs, while the Minister expressed thn opinion that the best solution ot all their difficulties would be found iu one law for both races. MR BUCKLAND AND MR REE3. Tho member for Manukau warmly attacked Mr Rees last night for taking up an extreme party stand in the House while holding the office of Chairman of Committees and hurling denunciation at the Opposition. " How can we respect a Chairman who takes up that position?" asked Mr Buckhind.'
