A keen contest will take place over it as many of the Government supporters are strongly opposed to the antifreehold view of the Premier and the Minister for Lands. LENGTH OF THE SESSION. It is the general opinion now that tho session will last eight or nine weeks longer. There is every appearance of this, as a large number of debatable Bills are on the Order Paper. Tho Land for Settlement Bill, the Land Bill, Electoral Bill, and Civil Service Bill will all be debated at great length, whilst the general estimates and the public works estimates will probably occupy a fortnight in discussion. A CURIOUS MEASURE. The Boarding and Lodging-house Bill, which has been introduced by the Minister for Public Works, provides that every house wherein three or more lodgers reside shall be a boarding-house; that every boarding-house shall be registered, and that every keeper of such house shall produce a certificate of character, signed by two local J.P.s, and two clergymen or respectable householders. Sanitary by-laws and regulations for separating the sexes, and not allowing criminals are to be enforced, and the houses are to be subject to inspection, and the names of lodgers returned.
