The ceremony was performed at Westminster, the Duke of Devonshire and a brilliant company of dukes and duchesses, lords and ladies being present. Gardiner and Stamford were sentenced to six months' imprisonment for cheating and assaulting girls whom they were preparing for a career on the music hall stage.
