HAMILTON V. lirXTXV. This match, which was witnessed by three or four hundred spectators, came off at Ngaruawahia on Saturday, and proved a very even and cxcitiiu: content. The field at Firewood Creek being under water, the game was plnvccl on a new ground near Havclock Mill, in which there were several large pot holes. Mr J. Webster, of Auckland, acted as ref<>re<;, at the reipipst. of the Waikato Union, and fulfilled his duties to the utmost satisfaction of every one. and Messrs McConnell and CarJyon rilled tho positions of line umpires for Hamilton and Huntly respectively. The barrackers hehaved very badly, and continually crowded on the field notwithstanding th« efforts of three or four members of the police force who were present, and did all in their power to keep good order. Tho game resulted in a win for the blues by 3 points (a goal from a penalty kick) to 2(a try). A couple of the Huntly players took their defeat very much to heart, and showed bad taste, wanting to "kill" the Hamilton fullback, for a reason only known to themselves, and no doubt that individual would have been pretty roughly handled but for the timely interference of the spectators. The following players represented Hamilton :— Fullback, J. "Grey;" three-quarters. Hume, Wright, Hammond; halves, Grihble. Cogan, Smart; forwards, Peacouk, Gillett, darken, Harrison, Cassidy, Brown. Williamson and Seddon. The Huntly team were : Fullback, "Singer " ; three-quarters, Connolly. L. Harris, and C. Lovell; halves, Carter, J. Harris, Welsh ; forwards, Attrell (2), Montgomery, Morrison and Smith. L. Harris kicked off, and the ball going straight behind the posts, was touched down by Grey. Hammond kicked out and the leather went out of bounds at the Huntly 25 flag. From the throw in, the maroons went through into Hamilton territory where a scrum took place; this was carried by the blues, and play was again taken into Huntly's 25. A. free kick was then awarded to Hamilton, this, however, was spoiled by the Huntly forwards, and Hume punted out of bounds at the maroon 25 flag. After the line out, a scrum was formed near the Huntly line, some loose work then occurred, and Clarkin got across, but owing to a> knock on prior to hia taking the ball, the try was ntt allowed. The leather was then taken to mid-field, •where several scrums took place; the blue forwards fteeling out, Wright got hold and after running passed to Hume, 'who tried to pot, but his attempt was spoiled by C. Attrell, and Welsh marked, the ball going out at the Hamilton 25 flag. After the throw in, a scrum occurred in front of the Hamilton posts ; this was carried by the blue forwards, -who gradually worked back into the maroon ground, ■where, for off-side play on the part of their opponents, Hamilton was awarded a free kick, Hammond took a place kick at the goal, which he succeeded in landing—three points. Harris then kicked out of bounds at mid-field.' Upon the ball being thrown in, several free kicks were exchanged, but eventually the ball -went out of bounds in Huntly's quarters. L. Harris punted and Cogan marked, to •which Connolly returned, and the ball •went to Hume, who ran and kicked over the maroon aoal line, Bull saving. Play was centred at mid-field for a while till, for off-side play, Huntly got a free kick. This sent the leather up to the blue goal lino, but it was soou cleared by Hammond puntinj*. atd shortly after half-time was called, the score being : Hamilton, tbree points; Huntly, nil. Gillett kicked off for Hamilton, and Connolly ran and passed to Harris, who carried the ball into Hamilton's nide of half-way. Huntly were then given a free kick, after which a scrum took place at mid-field. This Huntly carried, und another scrum was formed inside the blue 25 flag, where a 1.-rjje number of sorama now took place. The Hamilton boys indulged in a great deal of "off-side play, and had the Huntly team been blessed with a real good plaoekick, they must undoubtedly have scored, as they were givon several splendid chances, but they always failed to pnt the ball over the bar. However, Hamilton at last got through into the maroon ground, but L. Harris got hold, and making the run of the day, looked as if he was going to score, but Wright brought him down at Ibe blue 25 flasr. The -leather was then kept in Hamilton's territory for a time, and the maroons eettinjr on a big rush drove it over their opponent's goaf line. Hume attempted to force instead of kicking the ball into toucn-in-goal.'but missed, and J. Attrell fell on it, securing tho only try for Huntly about ten minuces before time was called. C. Lovell took the kick at goal, but failed to increase the score. For the •winuers, Hume, Smart and Hammond played the best among the backs, and Gillett, Peacock und Browne among the forwards;. Lovell, L, Harris and Connolly were most conspicuous in the HuDtly back division, while C. Attrell and Sampson appeared as the shining lights in the forwards.

It was also suggested that an effort be made to have a public holiday declared for that afternoon, so as to allow of all seeing the match. Various other matters of detail were arranged, and another meeting of the committee will be held on Saturday evening. As the Union is rather short of muds, it has been suggested that a joliection be made at each of the practice matches, so as to enable them to entertain the visitoi-3. Aβ these games will no doubt be very excitiug, andas interesting as any of the local matches, we do not think the public will mind payiug a small sum for their enjoyment. All fixtures have been postponed until August 20th, when they will re-com-mence as on uext Saturday.
