PIAKO COURSING CLUB MEETING.

Notwithstanding the unfavourable weather on Tuesday, a large number of sportsmen and visitors rolled up at Morrinsvillo to witness and participate in the sport provided by the above Club at it* initial meeting. Amongst the visitors I noticed representatives from Cambridge, Hamilton, To Aroha, and- even Auckland. A start was made from Mr James Turnbull's hotel | at Morrinsville for the paddocks of the fljockerbie Estate, which had been kindly placed at the disposal of the Club; and almost immediately upon leaving the road puss began to show up plentifully, but showed no disposition to make a very close acquaintance with tho " bow-wows "—in {act, as a result of the various courses, decided and undecided, I think only four hares met with an untimely end; they appeared to be in better condition than their pursuers. Mr James Henderson, the wellknown coursing judee of Auckland, acted as judge, and his decisions gave every satisfaction. Mr Harrison, as knowing the ground thoroughly, acted as slipper during the early portion of the day, and well performed the duty ; Mr J. Arnaboldi acted during tho afternoon. Mr W. Rowe, as secretary, was most indefatigable in the performance of his duties, and was here, there, and everywhere. The following is the result of the various events : —

Sr. Lkgkk Stakes (for puppies).—First draw : Mr R. Brennan's Gladstone beat Mr H. Baskerville's Rebel; Mr A.*W. Edward's Colonel beat Mr Haztell's Loco; Mr W. Rowe's Norma ran a bye.—Final : Norma beat Gladstone, and divided with Colonel. All Aged Stakes.—Mr J. Turnbulls Sam ran a bye ; Mr C. Craig's Loafer beat Mr F. Marshall's Nelly ; Mr Tyndall's Negress beat Mr Baskerville's Sunray.— The matches were not concluded when our representative left.
