" LEI THERE BE LIGHT."
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I read the other day there, wae an unfortunate youth named Barber, had died in a coach while on his way from the Railway Station to the Wailcato Hospital. His death, I believe, took plate on Wednesday morning, but up to the present I have seen □o published account of an inquest bavin? been held. Surely such was necessary ? or has the account been suppressed from an idea that the character of the institution would suffer in any way. I am one of those old fashioned people who believe that too much publicity cannot be given in question of the sort. It has long been an idea of those living out-side the charmed circle of Hamilton, that an ambulance should be provided for the conveyanee of patients from the train to the Hospital, and j lm ouo would like to know to what extent the sad result of the young man's journey could be attributed to jolting in a Hamilton coach. I hope, sir, you will take in guod part these few remarks and not allow your residence in Hamilton to warp your judgment, and if possible, publish a report of the inquest for the information of those who like your correspondent live at a considerable distance from Hamilton, but nil the same take an interest in ;he management of our Hospital. Ratepayer.
I Our correspondent, we are happy to say, 13 " barking up the wrong tree." No occurrence such as he refers to has taken place. On enquiry, we find a silly, but quite unfounded, rumour was afloat in Hamilton in connection with this matter. The name, however, fortunately got mixed up ; otherwise had the rumour reached the friends off the young man Mathers, to whom it no doubt referred, it would huva caused them much unnecessary pain.—En. W.T.]
