Wellington, Last Night. The Mayor* attending the annual meeting uf the Municipal Association were entertained at lunch by the Governor.

Tho repairs to the Cook's Strait single core cable will not be completed for some days owing to another breakage having occurred tiiree or four miles out from Lyell's Bay.
The rainfall since yesterday afternoon has been very heavy, and between 3 p.m. yesterday and 9 a.m. to-day, no less than 2.20 inches fell. Rain has fallen on eight days out of eleven this month and already the measurement stands at 5.34 inches.
