THE MISSING LINE
TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—The missing link in the : ha,iii ?£ thought is co-operation— co-opeiati'>n »n moral and religious thought, co- u por<iu , n ia physical thought, and co-operate '" social thought. As the elements, of •"■■"'•■ I kind are their moral, physical "'sW thought, upon which their pre Ifuture depend, so must these ele operate co-squally and co-ordinat ducedeaired, results. To seek for for our present evils in the moral of society alone is not sufficic world has been ruled in turn I thought, by physioal thought and thought, each in its time actini autocrat of the race, and each ha signally in turn. The Ohm State, the people each have ha, try and failed, and to-day in th quarters of the globe we have bei specimens of these three elements of kind acting separately, with the C intentions, but failing. Tradition » us that in his original state maifmoral, physical and social fact, but 7 tell into error and, discarding the ui co-operation which bound hia i ..ments together, has ever since then £?s »i\e revolu.. tions of time have pissed over him) been groping in the dark, compelled to submit to socialistic force as hie tyant, then to physical force, and lastly Co moral force. Christianity came into thf world to shed a light upon its darkness, ;yd to hold out to mankind the missing line of co-operation of their moral, physianl aad social attributes. Nearly two thousand years have passed away, and minense progress h»» been made towards the possibility of man regaining his equifonaity, and he will yet regain it, when he is sufficiently enlightened to see cleu'ly that tho missing element in his mor»l, physical and social societies is co-operation. And what is co-operation? Instead of the old commandment of Utu, "An «yo for an eye and a tooth for a tooth " (monopoly v. competition), the new commandment of Christy anity, "Return good for evil by doing uu., others what you would have thorn do unl ■ you, whether we like) it i-r not." Thii commandment has to be filled literally, and indeed before the moral, physical and social evils of the world are reformed by the co-operation of these three elements of man's individual nature. It is useless and dangerous to trust to either one or other of these elements, and only labour in vain to work whilst warapd discord aro rife m their midst. It is pitiable and shameful to see our moral elementary institutions (the Churches) in imposition to each other, and our physical elementary institutions (the Government) in opposition to each other, and our social elementary institutions I (material) in opposition .te- each other, or worse still, in com, petil;Km with each othsr for first place ; ami all three are antagonistic to each other and .against the only elerof'nt under which the i dispensation of Chr ' anity can exist, o;r under which, indiv ally or collectively", wo can live in p< , gain contentment, " she missing ' operation."—YrAirs truly, Waikato.,'June 24th, 1892. ■ inoA roat~ The ' ry ino'n' abo 'took ■ Cn "'■
