A SAURIAN MONSTER.
A shokt time since the Auckland papers reported the jfcpkure of ;i sea monster by Captain Subritzsky during a trip from one of the northern ports to Auckland. A great deal morn interest than usual was tilcon in tho capture, us only a few weeks earlier the samo gentleman reported having coma across the "great sea s«rpßiit"somewher.i iu the same vicinity. This monsti-i----is now on view in Hamilton in the at :>i\> lately in tho occupation of Mr V,. T. Duvi'.y, in Victoria-street. It is evidently of the turtle tribe, and more nearly resembles the variety known as tho coriaceous, or leatherbacked turtle, which attains to a very liirgp size, considerably greater than any other species, When caucrht it was estimated t>< weigh fully half a ton. It moas ires about six feet in length and ovsr eight in circumference. The body is completely encased in shell, ribbed and fluted, from head t" tail. The head is fish-like in shape, with eyes and spout hole?. The mouth and tin-out are full of massive teeth, denoting | that it was of caruiverous habits and that its food coini-sted of (Kh, crustaceans ami m"lluscs. The monster is certainly a remarkable one, and well worth inspection.
