MASONIC.
LODGE BETA - WAIKATO, NO. 12, N.Z.C.
One of the most successful Masonic gatherings ever held in Waikats took place on Thursday evening in the Masonic Hall, Hamilton East, the occasion being the installation of Bro. G. W. Sare as W.M. of Lodge Beta, Waikato, and tho investiture of his officers. There were in all about fifty brethren present, including eight members of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, and twenty members of Lodge Beta, the remainder being visitors from Lodges Ara, No 1 N.Z.C.; St. Andrew, No. 8 N.Z.C.; Albion, No. 5 N.Z.C. ; Aloha, No. 2014 E.C. : Alexandra, No. 1188, E.C. ; and Palatine, No. 97 E.C. The proceedings were opened by the retiring W.M. (Bro. J. Primrose), and after the officer? of tha Grand Lodge had.been received in due form, Bro. W. Chapman, 1.P.M., Lodge Ara, No. 1 N.Z.C,, who acted as Installing Master, took ovor the working of tha lodge. Bro. G. H. Powley, P.G.S.W., acted as Director of Ceremonies, and P.M. Bros. Kidd and Dey as Presenting Officers. The W.M.-elect (Bro. George Watford Sare) was duly installed by the Board of Installed Masters, which numbered 18, and the brethren being re-admitted, the members of Lodge Beta saluted their □ewly-installed master in the three degrees. The working tools in the third degree were present by Bro. Rev. W. Rnnaldson, Grand Secretary ; in the second by Bro. C. J. W. Barton, P.M. ; and in the firet by Bro. W. H. Cooper, P.G.S.W. The address to the Master was delivered by Bro. B. J. Esam, P.M., and the W.M. then invested his Wardens, Bro. R. J. Gwynne as S.W., and Bro. T. J. Prince as J.W., tha address to whom was ably delivered by Bro. W. Parkinson, P.M. The other officers were than invested as follows :—Secretary and Treasurer, Bro. G. Edgecumbe, Grand Pursuivant (re-elected thirteenth time); D. of C., Bro. W. Duy, P.M. (reelected) ; S.D., Bro. W. F. Bell ; J.D., Bro. R. B. Peat ; Organist, Bro. A. T. Hookey (re-elected); 1.G., Bro. F. W. Littlewood ; and Tyler, Bro. L. Newton. The address to the brethren was very impressively delivered by Bro. G. H, Powley, P.G.S.W. The Grand Secretary, Rev. Bro. W. Ronaldson, apologised for the unavoidable absence of the M.W.G.M., who had been prevented from attending at tho last moment. The Secretary also read letters from several brethren, expressing regret at not being able to attend the ceremony. Hearty congratulations were offered on behalf of the following Lodges;— St. Andrews, 8, N.Z.C. ; Ara, 1, N.Z.C. ; Sir Walter Scott, 18, N.Z.C.; Albion, 5, N.Z.C. ; Hokianga, 69, N.Z.O. ; Mougonui, 81, N.Z.C.; Alpha, 2014, E.C.; Palatine, 97, E.C.; Hiram, 46, N.Z.C.; United Service, 10, N.Z.C. ; United Service, 421, I.C. ; St. Augustine, 4, N.Z.C. ; Otago, 7, N.Z.C. ; St. Patrick, 408, I.C. ; Alexandra, 1188, E.C. Theservica throughout was full choral, Bro. A. T. Hookey presiding at the organ. The Lodge was then closed in proper form. Th>j brethren, on the invitation of the W.M., re-assembled at Mrs Gwynne's Hamilton Hotel, where a recherche supper was prepared, and at which over forty satr down. After ample justice had been done to the good things provided, the following list of toasts was gone through :— "The Queen and Craft,proposed by tha W.M. " Bro. Malcolm Niccol, M.W.G.M, of New Zealand," proposed by tho W.M., responded to by Rev. Bro. W. Ronaldson. G.S. "H.R.H. Prince of Wales, Grand Patron of Freemasonry," proposed by tha W.M. " Grand Lodge Officers," proposed by Bro. W. Dey, P.M., responded to by Bro. Kidd, President of the Board of General Purposes. " Bro. G. IW. Sare, W.M. Lodge Beta - Waikato," proposed by the R.W.G.S., responded to by the W.M. " Installing Officers," proposed by Bro. A. Primrose, P.M., responded to by Bro. Chapman, P.M. "Officers of Lodge Beta-Waikato," proposed by Bro. Kidd, responded to by the S.W, " Sister Lodges of all Constitutions," proposed by Bro. G. Edgecumbe, G.P., responded to by P.M. Bros. Esnm and Hicks. " Our Visitors," proposed! by Bro. J. Primrose, 1.P.M., responded to by P.M. Bros. Bond and Sargent. "Masons, Wives, Bairns, and Sweethearts," proposed by Bro. C. J. W. Barton, P.M., responded to by Bro. Hookey. "Tyler's Toast." "The Hostess," proposed by Bro. S, H. Powler, P.G.S.W., responded to by Bro. R. Gwynne. Numerous songs and recitations were given during the evening and the gathering broke up, all present having: thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Auckland brethren left by train forAuckland yesterday morning, and they all said they would look forward with pleasure to attending the Beta. Installation next; year.
