THE RAGLAN ROAD.
The letter from "Raglanitn," which appeared in our issue of Saturday last, gives a fairly correct view of how the public regard the unfortunate stoppage of the main road to Raglau. Wa venture to say that very few indeed ever contemplated this difficulty other than as merely a temporary one, to be removed in a day or two at the utmost; but days, gradually lentrthening into weeks, have passed since Mr Bruce erected the barrier, and—so far as we know—there is no more prospect of the road being opened than there was upon the first day of the difficulty. To the general public it will certainly appear as if the Raglan Oeunty Council —who have control of this road—were indifferent to the welfare of those who require to use it, and are shirking their plain duty. Whether Mr Bruce is acting legally or illegally is nob for the travelling public to consider. That is a matter for the Raglan County Council to settle, and the doing so should not require many hours, much less the weoks which have passed. Again, we are led to understand that the tfhole amount at issue is only a few pounds, tbe payment of which is surely not to be compared to the annoyance and loss which this stoppage has occasioned to Raglan and Wai pa settlers. We sincerely trust that the members of the Council will awake to their responsibilities and immediately remove the scandal of allowing the principal channel of communication between the Raglan and West Coast districts and Waikato to be shut up over a paltry dispute, the issues of which a fiveponnd note would probably go far to settle,
