Mr Justice Owen, '.ho President, intimated that lie would net allow Mr Sehey to thus burke the Commission, and if he did not proceed with the chiu gus he would himself bo called as a witness. Mklhouuxk, Juno 2. ' A motion was carried in the Legislative Council to consider the p<:! it ion of this Rail way Commissioners, by 26 to •J the latter being Ministers. The Hon. Mr Davis regarded the action of the Council as unconstitutional, and likely to bring about conflict with tli<— Assembly. The Council requested the Assembly to agree, to the appointment of a joint Committee to deal with the case. In the Lowor House Mr Shiels, Premier, moved that a message bo sent to the Council staling that the House whs willing , to hear the Commissioners at the Bar, but could not concur in tho appointment of a Committee. June .'J. The Legislative Assembly agreed to Mr Shiels' motion in regard to tho Railway Commissioners, but has not concurred in the request of the Legislative Council, that a joint committee be appointed to deal with tho matter of leave being granted to the Railway Commissioners to appear at the. bar of the Honse on Tuesday next, but great efforts are being made to bring about a settlement in the meantime. It is understood that offers have been made to Mr W. H. Gre.we, one of the members of the Hoard, to return to tho position of Engineor-in-Chief, and an offer has also been made to pay Mr Speight a sum equivalent to his salary for the remainder of his term. It is stated, however, that the Chief Commissioner insists on his re-appointment and the removal from the Gazette of tbe notice of his dismissal.
