SPECIAL SETTLEMENTS.
(hy telegraph.—own corukspondrxt.) Auckland. Last Night. A lakgk meeting was held to-day in connection with the formation of an association to settle tho Ohura Block. Documents were submitted for the formation of two associations, to be called the Oil ira Valley Special Settlement No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. The regulations provided for the election of committees of management and officers, with power to make levies of threepence per acre to cover the working expenses. The settlement would be cut up into blocks of 320 acres, the allotments to be chosen by lot, except in the case of family allotments, which it is thought should be contiguous. Settlers would pay for the land at the same rate as is paid by the association to the Government. The land could only be taken up for special settlement for 21 years and the right of renewal for 21 years, without the right of purchase. The plan was approved, and sufficient names were given in for the formation of two associations.
