The Primate has communicated with the Government with reference to a resolution passed at the last Anglican Synod, asking the Government to seek the consent of Parliament to a number of amendments in the Marriage Law. Hon. W. P. Reeves replied stating that the Government are not disposed to move in the direction desired. The Minister (or Public Works leaves for Auckland by the Ta,kapuna to-night. The Government cable steamer TerraD'.ora arrived this afternoon from Waitara, 30dtha work of fitting her up with the necessary machinery and appliances for raising and repairing the cable will be bagun immediately under the personal super■vision of Dγ Lmnon.
