MR GLADSTONE.
THE LIBERAL POLICY. (BY KLIiCTKIC TKI.KOKAI'H.— COI'YKIGUT). London, ,hnw. 1. Mr Gladstone, in addressing the London Liberal Union, advocated the abolition of the plural voto, uuifaction of the Metropolis, extended powers to Country Councils, including the control of tho police : also that ground landlords should bo forced to bear a fair share of taxation. He expressed his willingness to receive, a deputation on the eight hours' question, and thought they might uot too harshly judge the promoters of even impracticable schemes. Ho was of opinion that Municipal bodies might mitigate the hours of labour. Ho termed the. Mar quis of Salisbury a political incendiary. He said that tho few fools and rogues in Ulster who would resist tho establishment of an Irish Parliament would be easily suppressed. Tho Right Hon. E. Ilencage, M.P. for Great Grimbsy, in addressing the meeting, said that there was a general reaction in favour of Liberal Unionism which promised to be the greatest electoial surprise of the century.
