LAND TRANSFERS.

» AN IMPORTANT QUESTION. (BY TELEGKAPH—OWN CORBESrONDKN-f). Auckland, Last Night. A question of considerable importance was raised in the Supreme Couit this morning, before Mr Justice Connolly, npnn the following motion :—ln the mutter of tho Land Transfer Act, Native Land Court Act, 1886, and an order for 2010 acres in the Maungatautari Block, Mr Button moved, for the District Land Registrar to show cause whv he should not register an order of the Native Land Company, mada in favour of the New Zealand Loau and Mercantile Company. Mr Cotter appeared on behalf of the Land Registrar to oppose the motion. His Honour was asked to direct the Registrar to vest in the applicants a very large area, valued at between £8000 and £10,000, and to order that the Registrar should register this order from the Native Lands Court. There was nothing whatever to show that the present applicants were entitled to the land. Mr Button admitted that the matter was of importance, although the value of the land was not so high as stated by Mr Cotter, the value being about £4000. The important question was, wbetheror not a judgement of the Native Lands Court on an order was to be binding on the Registrar or on all other parties, or whether, in such a proceeding as this, they could go behind it. His Honour thought that a matter of such importance should be argued. The question was adjourned until the first sitting in banco.
