I — Tiikre were, in ;ill twenty-one applications received at tho meeting of tho Wiiikitto District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, for tho position of resident medical officer for the Waikato District Hospital. Among the applicants were a number of gentlemen whose qualifications were such fft showed them admirably fitted to occupy such a position as the one for which they had applied, and tha chosing of the most suitable, one was a matter which caused the Board considerable discussion. The question was considered in committee, and we are therefore unable in our report to give any of the discussion, or even the voting on it, but the report of the committee was to the effect that Dr. Kenny had been almost unanimously recommended for the position, and the report was unanimously adopted. We must congratulate the Board on their choice, and feel sure that they will find it a wise one, as from the excellent manner in which the Hospital has been conducted during Dr. Kenny's regime, as judged from the reports of Dr. Macgregor, the Inspector of Hospitals, and the absence of complaints in the district, Dr. Kenny proved himself tho right man in the right place. Dr. Kenny is also to be congratulated in having so gained the confidence of the Board that against so many applicants they have seen fit to appoint him to the post of resident surgeon ; a fact which shows that he has, in the discharge of his duties, given general satisfaction, the members of the Board being representative of the whole district. The Waikato Hospital is now well staffed, and fully equipped, and we do not think that the ratepayers will have any cause of complaint as to the management of the institution.
