The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report under date :— Chhistohuboh May 20—Store Sheep: Good entries of this class of stock continue to come in, tempted no doubt by the high prices obtainable. Yesterday's entry iif about) 3000 consisted of a useful line of twotooth crossbreds, which brought 14s 10d, a line of fair merino wethers passed at auction and small lots of various descriptions. Buyers, many of whutn must have adde/jt considerably to the revenue of the railway in quest of sheep this season, were in Icirge attendance. Steady competition ruled, and prices realised indicate a demand almost as keen aa ever. Cross-bred lambs brought 8s 7d to 11s 6d, two-tooths, 14s to 15s 4d ; crossbred ewes, aged, in lamb, 10a to 133.—Pat sfceep : Considerably above an average supply was yarded, bat the bulk of the entry consisted of crossbred ewes and merino wethers ; in fact, the market was so surfeited with these Classes that it was difficult to quit the latter at times at anything like fair value. Whether due to the liCfle festivity connected with the opening of the Yard Company's new refreshment premises or not, it is hard to say ; but from some cause, bidding for certain classes was especially spasmodic and irregular. Prime crossbreds, however, were in the minority, and commanded spirited competition throughout the sale. ' Among these wew. several splendid lines of sheep, which •«>,. fleeted the greatest credit on the grazi.evs, and wo had the pleasure o? topping, the market with a consignment from Mr J. Gunn, of Methven, a r,en o f his wethers bringing the satisfactory figure of 20s a head, and a pen of maidf Q ewes 19a. These were bought for export. We sold—Crossbred wethers, 16s. >,„ 20s; crossbred ewes, 15s to l'Ja.—Cattl? : Theaupply of f«t cattle was not a large OD' dl . in d, with a good demand, enhanced Values resulted, especially for prime quality wmo i| Wll s scarce. We sold for clic.its, cows nnd heifers at £4. £5 and £6 Is; good steers made up to £7 10-f and £7 12.1 od. In the store cattle pens the entry was a meagre one, and consisted only of young stock and odd lots of dry cows, so *!■ t no reliable estimate of values can be civ.ii. The demand was good, and any straight linns of grazing cattle wculd have found ready buyers. Dairy stock was in good request, and brought full values.
