WELLINGTON NEWS.
(bi telegraph.—press association.) Wellington, Last Night. At the quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce the President stated that he understood tho Government intended to send a wool expert to tho Chicago Exhibition to give tlifl necessary information regarding Colonial wools. He hoped a Conference between the Chambers and theehip ownei'B would be arranged with a view of providing an equitable bill of lading. He did not regret that the proposal for the reduction of the postal rates had not come in to force on April Ist as he thought if there were necessity for a reduction in taxation it should take a different form and he would not be surprised to find the duties upon the necessaries of life reduced during theeession. The Times says that it is understood that Mr Edwards is preparing to petition Parliament for redress, and that a private member intends to move the repeal of the Newspaper Copyright Act soon atter the House meets. Mr McKerrow, Chief Commissioner of railways, left for the. north this morning via New Plymouth. He intends inspecting the Auckland Section.
