QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY.

-—■ ——•— — HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY VOLUNTEERS. This company, under Capt. Reid and Lieutenant Kirk, par.'.ded at the drill shed, at 10.30 a.m. the Wand under Bandmaster Meachem, being also present. There was a muster of over forty of all ranks. After roll call the company marched to the Post office paddock were a number of evolutions were executed in a manner showing the careful drilling of Capt. Reid and his subordinate ofricors. Headed by the band the company then marched up on to the old redoubt on the hill overlooking the township where the feu de joie was bred and three cheers given for Her Majesty, the band playing the National Anthem. Leaving their rifles at the drill shed the company proceeded to the Commercial Hotel where a sumptuous repast was prepared for them by Mrs Bright. After justice had been doue to the good things provided the health of Her Majesty was drunk and on returning to the drill shed the men were dismissed. Owing to the short notice the Te Awamutu corps were unable to attend, but we hope that before long a meeting will be arranged between these two corps. SPORTS AT HAMILTON Owing no doubt to Hie bad weather on Monday there was not a large attendance at the sports on Sydney Square, Hamilton, there not being more than 250 persons present. The several events were well contested, the Half-Mile and second stage of the Cup being especially so. The various officials performed their duties in a satisfactory manner and nit a hitch occurred throughout the meeting. The Hamilton Brass Band (Bandmaster Mettam), were present and performed a number of selections in a pleasing manner adding considerably to the enjoyment. The following is thje result of the various events :— Hurdlk Race Handicap, of 250 yards jver G hurdles. First prize, £2; second, 10s. R. Harrison, (14vds) 1 W. Livingston, (10yds) 2 J. Wright, (10yds) 3 W. Bishop (scr), also ran. Boys' Race, of 100 yards. C. Lines, (scr) 1 P. Bavly, (2yds) 2 Rawhite, (4yds) 3 Birthday Cup, (judged by points). First prize. £6 ; second, £2 10s; third. £1. Run in three stages. First stage, 100 yds. Te Awarutn, (o'yds) ... . 1 ■I. Wright, (4yds) 2 C. (3yds) 3 { Second Stack, 220 yards. ; W. Wright, (12yds) 3 The positions for the Cup were :—Awarutn, 14 points, and Bishop and Wright, each 10 points. Wright and Bishop did not run off, Wright allowing Bishop to take second place. Noauuawahia.—The above match between the junior members of the Hamilton Football Club, and a mixed team uf seniors and juniors of the Ngaruawahia Club, was played at Ngaruawahia, on Tuesday, (Queen's Birthday). In the first spell the Hamiltun boys had it all their own way, Geo. Steadman scored first for Hamilton, R. Gillett converting into a good goal. In the second spell the teams were brought more together. B. Simmelhag, one of the Ngaruawahia three-quarter backs, made the best run of the day, passing all the Hamilton backs, and scoring behind the posts. No goal was kicked. No further score was made, Hamilton thus winning by three points. Messrs Cogan and Fielder umpired for Ngaruawahia and Hamilton respectively, the latter also acting as referee. J. Harris captained the Hamilton boys, and A$" r ervois the Ngaruawahia team.
