Tho Now Zoiland Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report under date : — Christchukch May 13—Store Sheep: The small total of about 2300 stores were yarded. The attendance was good, including many buyers. Business was restricted to small lines, though in several instances exceptionally good lots changed hands. The prices obtained throughout the sale plainly indicate the keen demand that exists for sound young sheep everywhere. Two lota of young cross-bred ewes, to lamb in July and August, brought respectively 17s 9d and Ids 4d Cross-bred lambs brought 8s to lla Gd, two-tooth crossbreds to 14s 3d. —Fat Lambs : Business in this class, to some extant, appenrsd to regain life, a fair entry being penned and met good competition trnmtho different sources of the trade.—Fat Sheep: A rather larger supply than those of the last two weeks was penned. The quality was very mixed, ,i'id included several consignments of Chatham Island sheep. Merinos also formed a prominent feature of the market. Prime cross-breds were scarcer than usual, while ewes wero more plentiful. Competition appeared Ihss spirited than of late, and prices in crossbred ewes and merinos show a slight falling off as compared with last week. For prime quality little or no change is to be recorded.—Fat Cattle :An average supply of beef was offered, including two lines of prime heavy-weight bullocks. The rest of the entry was principally composed of hnifer and <jpw beef. The trade competed freely for everything, and prices ruled on a p&r with last week's. Heavyweight bullocks brought £8 to £9 sg, medium steers £(> to £7 10s, heifers and steers £4 10s to£G 10s, beef making ISs to 20s per 1001b.—Store Cattle : A similar entry to last week's was yarded, viz., a number of odd lots of dry cows and a few small pens of young cattle. Business in this department was as keen as over, and all lots changed hands at prices favourable to growers.—Wheat : There has been a fair amount of business passing the week, which, however, closes with a somewhat quieter feeling. Samples of good to fair quality, in dry shipping condition, have found a ready sale »t current values. Lots nut of condition and damaged are mo»t difficult to place, even at a considerable reduction, Stocks in ' stora are now accumliiting cm growers' account, and for second qualities the outlook is not encouraging for holders. Prime milling to-day is worth—Hunters 3s 3d, Pearl, 3s 4d to 3s sd, Tuscan 3d 0d to 3s 7d, f.0.b,, sacks extra ; damaged lots from 2s (id to 3s, f.0.b., —Outs : still continue dull and without much inquiry. Dunedin, May 12.—Grain—Wheat: As in the preceding week, this market has shown but little animation, and as supplies still come forward freely, with no inducemont to shippers to operate, and millers are only purchasing sparingly, we see no immediate prospect of any improvement; even the small business passing is at reduced rates. Quotations : For best Tuscan and velvet, 3s Sd to 3s lOd.— Oats : The market for these is very steady and firm, am! all offering find a ready sale. Bright milling and heavy plump feed are in most Favour. Long Tartarian*, bright and true to name, also well-grown Danish, free from other sorts, are beginning to have some attention ; but discoloured and damp do not command much notice, except for local use, at very much reduced price.?. Shippers and dealers are purchasing more freely, it being now pretty well undeistood that the quantity to hand and yet to come forward will be a long way short compared with last season s supply. We quote prime milling at Is 0d to Is G'Ad; beet bright feed, Is 5d to Is SJcl. —Potatoes: The market continues oversupplied. Prices, in consequence, show no improvement.
