Twonty-four churches, chapels, or colleges were blown clown while many of the sugar mills were wrecked. It is reported that 1500 lives were lost in the storm, while the list of those injured is stated to be thousands, and hundreds have been rendered homeless. Twenty-nine steamers have been wrecked along the coast. Adelaide, May 23. A cable from Mauritius says it is estimated that in consequence of the fearful storm which has devastated the Island that the crop of sugar this year will only reach sixtythousand tons. This is about half the usual yield.
