HUNTING.

« :— THE ■WAIKATO HOUNDS. Thk hounds inet at Hautapu on Saturday, and threw off in a paddock opposite Mr M. H. Pickering's, where a haro was soon found, but after crossing several paddocks she was lost in the gully behind Mr Dykes'. In the same paddock, however, another was picked up, and led away across the road into Mr Paton's, over several paddocks, and back over the road, where puss wiv-i .again lust. After several short runs a drag was laid from Mr Dykes' over several fences and across the road into Mr Douglas', and round some nice, clean-made jumps in this gentleman's property. But soon after starting a hare ran across the scent, and the hounds followed the track of the legitimate game, and, after a short run, ran into puss in a plantation, making the first and only kill of the day, Crossing the road into a paddock opposite Mr Douglas' house, the hounds again dropped on the trail, and led away over several paddocks and clean jumps towards Cowley's, where a check was made in some scrub. As it was now drawing towards 4 o'clock, and hares — which were too plentiful—kept doubling back to the ti-tree, the hounds were called off and started for home, after doing some real pood work and pleasing everybody. Amongst those out we noticed Messrs Douglas on Pawa, H. Bullock-Webster on Blue Peter, Fletcher on Nancy, C. Luke on Muscatelle, W. Thornton on an Ingomar mare, Jas. Turnbull on a Capapie mare, R Hannon on Duchess, 0. Weal on an Ariel gelding, Thos. Weatherill on Fisherboy, S. Lawson on Peter, D. McNicol on Melrose, Emerson on Titbits, Armer on Presto, Mj H. Pickering, A. Storey, J. Wrigley, Bach, Lookhart, Wyatt, McFnrlane, J. McNicol, and others. Several ladies were present on horseback and in buggies—Mhs Rath borne, Mrs Pickering, Mrs McNicol, Mrs Nichol, Miss Mark, and Miss Newell. The next meet will be on Saturday next, at Mr John McNicol's, Ohaupo, at 11.30 a.m. The other meets for the next fortnight will be found in our advertising columns to-day.
