McNicol Rkpoiits At Olmnpn on Tuesday, 250 head of cattle were yarded, jitirl fliceji, pood thrao and four-year-old turnip steers frutu W. Thornton truuio from £0 -Is to t'(! 10s. Sheep: Good half-bred lambs from King Country made Gs Gd to 7s 2d ; one particularly nice pen of half-bred LincolnMerino lambs making 9s 3d each. The auctioneer in selling these lambs called attention to the advice that was being so freely given to Waikato farmers by wouldbe authorities on the class of sheep to breed for freezing, and sairl that perhaps if these men were present and saw these lambs they would hesitate in future to offer advice that results might not perhaps bear out, those lambs being as good sheep for freezing as any cross of Down-, and would beat Downs two to one for valuo of fleece. His opinion is borne out by the t;ir?esfc breeders and shippers of freezers in Mawkes Bay and Wellington. In future he thought more attention would be paid to the Merino 6we for breeding freezers, as a cross from thein with Lincoln, Leicester or Romney ram was equal to Blackface for freezing and far superior for value of fle;ce. Farmers instead of being led away by the advice of men who, some of thorn, are only amateurs, would do better to suit the breed oE sheep to the country they ran 011, and pounds, shillings and pence result would bear this out. Store Merino wethers up to Gs; good cross-bred ewes, full mouths and in lamb 9s each; good young longwool ewes in lamb, 12s Gd each, _____ AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS. MESSBS A.
