Wkdnknday.—((More Capt. Jackson R.M.) Maivwariso v. Ni'.onkwhkho.—Mr (Jrraham for plaintiff. By consent of the parties the hearing was adjourned until next Court dav. Poke v. Tk Ara Hkki:,—This was a claim for tlio detention nf a horse, and £4 damages, which had been partly heard last Court day. Defendant, had conducted his own case the first day, but Mr Gresbatn now appeared for him, and Mr Cruickshank for plaintiff. After hearing nil the evidence, the Court (which included two native assessors) were of the opinion that the defendant owned the horse and gave judgment forhim with cost.* £(> 17s fid. Assault.—The native Meri who has been in custody for the last week for brutally] Assaulting his wife wns again brought up and remanded for eight days. The woman is still in the Hospital, and will not be fit to lpave for a week yet. The accused has not eaten any food since being locked up, and Constable Jones stated to the Bench that acting on the doctor's advice ho would no longer oppose the application for bail. Mr Cruickshank, who appeared for accused, submitted the names of three substantial natives as sureties, and after the Court had examined them as to their substances, Tori Paehua and Rangikatana were taken in bonds of £100 each, and the accused in his own bond of £200.
