AUCKLAND NEWS.
(by telegraph.—own correspondent). Auckland, Last Night. This Picturesque Atlas claims are being vigourously resisted by settlers at Papakura, who have formed a defensive lenpue and are employing Mr Cntter, who defeated the Bowennans at Pukekohe. The Magistrate has again decided that outside evidence regarding representations made by the canvassers in other cases is admissable. The following telegram wa3 forwarded to-day to the Hon. Mr Saddon by Mr J. M. Shera :■-" Have been requested to bring under youv notice that surfacemen are only paid 6s per day on the Kaihu railway under you, whereas the Commissioners pay (is (>d on all lines under them." The purser's cabin on the Tarawara was broken open the day after the vessel left Sydney, and one hundred and seventy pounds, intended to pay the crew, stolen.
