Thk Cambridge-Waikato Bridge.— i he Clerk of the Waipa County Council wrote, stating that his Council had " applied to the Minister to apportionate the cost of maintenance, making Piako and Waikato contributory bodies, and to request that your Council will clo the same."—Cr. Hally thought the Waipa Council had moved rather hastily.—The Clerk was instructed to reply to the County Council that this Council, before joining them in the request to the Minister, wishes to have their definite assurance that they (the County Council) are prepared, with such evidence as they consider necessary, to make the other counties contributors, and that they *«ent to this Council's proposal as to the proportion of the expenses.—Cr. Priestley is to approve of the letter before it is sent —Cr. Kirkwood said he had employed Wm. Vickers to repair a slip that had occurred at the approach to the bridge. He asked I who was to pay the 5s due to Vickers.—lt I was resolved to pay the amount without troubling the County Council. Thb Overdraft.—X he manager of the Bank wanted a special resolution showing that the Council knew the legal limit of its overdraft.—To do this the Council had first to show what the last year's revenue was, but in the absence of the Town Clerk this could not be ascertained ; consequently, the matter was postponed till next meeting. Last Month's Works Commutes Report.—This had not been signed by the chairman of the committee, although it was read at the last meeting—At this time there was somewhat of a scene between Cr. Kirkwood (the chairman of the Works Committee) and the Mayor over a man having been stopped from gravelling.—Cr. Kirkwood said the man had been stopped by the Mayor without the works committee being consulted, and he should thorefore resign his position as chairman.—Cr. Priestly said bhis was one of the unfortunate fchines that had arisen from the lax manner in which the business of the Council had been conducted of late.—The Mayor said the contractor had finished all the gravelling that had been authorised. The estimateß for the current year had not yet been made out, so no gravelling could have been authorised.—The whole matter had evidently arisen through a mistake, and this hating been explained, Cr. Kirkwood signed the report, after which it was approved and adopted. Revision Court.—A special meeting ot tho Council will be held at noon on Saturday next, to revise the hurgess' list. The Town Clkrk.—The clerk had sent a doctor's certificate stating that he was suffering from gastric cartarrh, and was unable to leave his bed.—Cr. Bond said they would find themselves landed in some awkward fix.—After some further remarks the Mayor moved that the Town Clerk's services be dispensed in one month from date. —This was seconded by Cr. Priestley.— Cr. Bach moved as an amendment, that Mr Thomson be at his duties next Saturday, failing which he be instantly discharged.— Or. Kirkwood: On the strength of the doctor's certificate I second that.—Cr. Priestley said he was extremely sorry to oppose the amendment, but matters had really drifted so badly fur the past five months that it was imperative upon them to take action.—Cr. Bach then withdrew the amendment and the motion was unanimously carried.—lt was resolved to ask Mr Chas. Tuck to take charge of the affairs of the Borough for a month from the 14th instant.—The Legal and Finance Committee will report to a special meeting of the Council to be held on Tuesday next as to the salary to be offered for the office of Town Clerk in future, and arrange for advertising the vacancy. After several other matters had bßen attended to, the Council rose soon after 10 p.m., it having taken three hours to get through this small amount of business, in consequence of the disorganised state of affairs. _^___
