A REMARKABLE MONUMENT.
A rem auicacle monument has been erected recently over the grave of that erratic genius Marie Bashkirtseff iu the cemetery at the Rue do Passy, near Palis. It is placed in a conspicuous position near the gate and in the sizo of its dimensions it is more like a small church than a tomb. It is built of white stone in the Byzai* tine style of architecture, and is surmounted by a dome. On one wall is inscribed an epitaph by Andre Theuriet, and beneath it, iu two columns are inscribed thu titles of Marie's works of art. On the opposite wall is another epitaph by Ducros, over a glazed door which ailows inspection of the interior. This is a spacious chamber lighted by stained glass windows showing 1 portraits of tho young artist. Her bust occupies a central position, surrounded by pictures of saints, candelabra, palms and wreaths. Around this are grouped several of her possessions in the way #f furniture, draperies and a favourite prie-dieu, which she constantly used during her lifetime.
