Prices have been fairly -steady, but any increased supply "'ill at oncocause a considerable fall. Southern potatoes, although 1 .it-go and Italy in appearance, are Rood in quality. Wadtato crop is of very varied quality. Onions are in diminished supply, the demand is not great, except for a few export orders prices would recede; the demand should improve on the departure of tho m ail and Island steamers. Maize is somewhat dull of sale, except in small lots ; tho small remarks apply to oats and fowl wheat. Prime fresh butter maintains its v due. prices beincr the same as last week. AVo sold upwards of 40 kegs, but the quality, <in tho average, can only be classed second, and third. Esjjs have become very scarce, whilst the demand is unsitisfied. New cure bacon is coming in in small lots, and commands ready sale. Tho demand for bacon has considerably improved, in consequence, wo think, of the increased price of feeef and mutton. Cheese readily sells on arrival at an advance on recent quotations. Poultry : Supplies U|) to the average, prices remain the satne. Fruits : Apples continue t-.i be rushed in, owing to the season being unfavourable for keeping ; prices are without alt-ration. Other fruits in moro limited quantities. Owing ta the supply of Napier and Waikato potatoes the prices of this lino have receded somewhat, so quote Napiers, £'2 to£2 5s ; Waikato?, £2 to£loa ; inferior lots, £3 to £1 15s. Onions are difficult to quit at £3 10s to £4 per ton. A lino of Canterbury onions, prime samples, lvalised £1; inferior sample of local, in small bags, from Is to Is 9d per bag. Horso cirrots, red, in small lots, £2 to £2 10 s, demand steady; mangolds, £1 tr. £1 lCs per ton; pumpkin, £2 5s to £2 15s; piemelons, Is to Is (!d per cwt; kumeras, '.h Od to 0s per civt ; cabbage, Is (id tr, 2 s sack ; pickling onions, Ad to /,'<! per lb ; fowl wheat, 3s 3d to 3s (id, with slack demand, owing to the low price of maize—viz.. In tlio poultry department there was a good display, and tho values were creatly improved this week: First-class table fowls, Is Od to 2s ; ordinary, Is id to Is 8d ; poor and small, Is to 2s 111; rooster?, young and fat, Is Sil to 2s 21 ; others, lOd to Is (id. Ducks :In condition, Is Od to 2* 3d; poorer ones Is 3d. Turkeys : is Od to 7s Od for gobbler:;, and_2s Od to 3s 91 for hens; others, 2s to 2s od. Geese, 2s 3d to 2s Od ; pigeons, 1k to Is Od ; canaries, 2s lid to os. Pigs penned in large numbers with better pi ices, namely, for best breeds, well grown, 10s Gd to las, good ordinary from 5s to 8s; poor and suckers, 2s (id to 4s Gd. Sporting dogs, well trained and broken to the gun, sold very well. There were six sold under the hammer, realising the following prices Irish setter, £2 0s ; pointers, £110s to £2 9s ; spaniels, 15s Gd.

Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report under data CuittsroHuiicir, April 2:3.—Store, Sheep : Splendid grazing weather prevail-*, and the autumn feed is mors like that of a stood spring season than anything we are accumstoiiied to of lato yours, consequently the demand for store sheep is quite as keen as ever ; in fact, for anything tit for fattening on turnips the demand seems to exceed th*.! supply. Tlio inquiry for lambs also, which has flagged of late, has revived, and full rates are again paid. Hound-mouth ewes of all descriptions also meet with lively competition. Cimks bred lambs brought 8s to l(J< lid, cull do (is [i;l to 7s .'!d, aged cross-bred owes to 10s 11:1, small halfbred two-tooth wethers lis 3J, fair do 13 s, merino wethers 7s, and four, six and soundmouth merino ewosßs2d.—l''at Lambs : A small and nondescript entry, for which there was fair competition from the tnide and Braziers. Prices varied from S.s 0J to lis Id.— Fat Sheep : The supply was a light one compnred with late markets, but as regards-quality a decided improvement, the bulk of tho entry consisting of prime cross-bred and merino wethers of exceptionally good quality. Fur both classes the demand was good, and full rat.es were paid. Ewes being in rather small supply, were bought at an advance on late values. Store Cattle: Tho entry in this class was better represent than has been the ca-e for weeks past,and included several straight lines of young cattle. Cows were not, so numerous as usual. Bidding for voung sorts was lively, and a good clearance was made at prices as follow .—Steers, rising three years' up to £1 10s; ditto, heifers, ,H-l os, two-year-old heifers i! 3, three-vear-<,M Steers to £1 15s, and yearlings 35s to •rn. Any go'id sorts of daily cows sold freely up to £S 10s.
