ELLISON'S CIGAR FACTORY.

It is now some four years since wo reported on the manufacture of '• Tho Turf Club Cigarettes " conducted by Mr Harry Ellison, of Greystreet Auckland. To meet the increasing demand for his high-class productions, our enterprising townsman has lately designed special machinery for making with greater celerity, neatness and uniformity, those several parts of the commercial packet of whiffs which individually may appear triflitier, but which as a whole are necessary to meet the requirements of the colonial public, who have offered to them the best that American or Turkey can submit for their delectation. Tobacco leaf of the finest grade only is used, and that without the addition of any deleterious flavouring, its own inherent qualities being enough to satisfy the most fastidious. This leaf is cut upas wanted, and folded within rice paper wrappers by dexterous fingers into suitable lengths, and trimmed at the ends. The mouthpieces are of a special material, stamped by powerful presses into shapes of tho desired form, which, when twisted by a rapidly revolving tool into the necessary cones, are protected with a thin nlrn of moisture-resisting nature, preventing them from softening between the lips. The boxes and slides, too, are stamped and scored by ingenious mechanism so as to ensure a uniformity of shape and smoothness in opening and closing to prevent any damage to their contents. Mr Ellison from time to time has found it necessary to increase the number of girls in his employment owing to an ever-growing call from all parts of New Zealand fur his goods, which are supplied to meet the special needs of the different localities. With every trade package ho furnishes prize coupons of a high value.—Star,

Sawmills, Oluupo.
