A SUCCESSFUL ESTATE, LAND AND COMMISSION AGENCY.
A PROOK of what ability, energy, tact and intelligence will do ia given in the instance of the business so successfully organised and carried on by Mr J. Thornes. All these qualities are undoubtedly centred in Mr Thornes' person, and he has therefore by their use, built up one of the most prosperous land, estate, financial and commission agency businesses in New Zealand. In 1873 lie started in this line, and with the industry, sound principle and vim which characterises him, he ha& brought it to the foremist position a=i a land and general a»ency affair in the colony. During that time he has negotiated the sale of hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of property, and h.ii facilitated the settlement of families amounting to hundreds of people on the soil, many of whom were capitalists and brought thousands of pounds to New Zealand. He has besides effected the sale or lease of a gre.it amount of city and suburban property. In addition to this he has been most successful in letting st>r-s, offices and house property generally, and receiving the rants thereof satisfying both owners and tenants. Mr Thornes has a capital staff, who labour with zeal, intelligence and success to forward the interests of his clients and that of their principal, both of which they rightly believe to be identical. An excellent" system has been adopted in tho management of this large business, and there is a thorough control of details on the part of the principal and his staff. Nothine in connection therewith is considered small or paltry, which properly understood would tend to its prosperity. Amone't the many advantages that Mr Thornes offers capital ists are these : First their money is investod on first class security only, without charge ; second, 5 per cent, is allowed on deposits till investments are obtained. He also manages estates for absentees, and hi 3 services in this respect have been eagerly availed of by numbers who are obliged to go abroad either for a time or permanently. He holds numerous powers of attorney in this connection from some of our oldest and mo3t influential colonists, as well as from new and wealthy settlers who are absent from the country. By reference to another part of this issue those in Waikato in search of farms and homesteads either in this part of the country or in other places in the provincial district will find an extensive list of suitable properties, to which we direct attention, and feel sure if they consult Mr Thornes they will receive prompt information and courteous treatment, and that all business entrusted to him will be fairly and successfully carried out.
