SPORTING.
TAUWHARE ANNUAL RACES. Thk annual race meeting nt Tauwhire, was held on the new course, yesterday, and proved very successful. There was a large attendance and everybody seemed to enjoy the. gathering thoroughly. The weather which looked verj threatening in the morning cleared, and the afternoon was splendid up to the Maori race when the rain came down very heavily, and everybody cleared out— them our representative. Mr F. VV. Browning acted as judge, and Mr L. Nolsiin as starter, both gentlemen giving the utmost satisfaction in the discharge of their onerous duties. The other officers were: O.rk of scales, Mr K. Allright; handicappers, Messrs Bach and Dalgleish; clerk of course, Mr Honeybun ; Mr R. Or. Speake who ncted as Secretary, worked energetically to make the meeling a success. The Hamilton Brass Band, under Bandmaster Mettam, were present during the day and added greatly to the enjoyment of the meottng. The " spieling " fraternity was present in largo numbers and appeared to be doing a thriving trade among their country cousins. Eight event* were set down for discussion, and splendid finishes resulted in the Hurdle Race and Cup, the former of which was won by Mr T. Wises Sceptress and latter by Mr T. Slades Caprice. Mr Gillander scored a double win with Laet Chance in the Maiden and Settler'* Rsces, and although a protest was entered in the former event, on the grounds of the horae not being a maiden, it was not sustained. Innes's b m Matty 7st 71b ... 2 Mr R. Dodd's ch m Miss Kate, 7at 71b S White Wings was left at the post. Posy Race, of 6sov3. Distance, 1 mile. Ohopo 1 Hilda 2

The winner was bought for £6 10s by Mr Gillander. SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING.
The following acceptances have been received by Mr G. H. Carter for the forthcoming race meeting at Claudelanrls on Saturday next. Judging by the number of acceptances, the handicapper (Mr Halstead) has every reason to be satisfied with his efforts.
