MILK-SUPPLIERS' UNION.

We understand that some steps are about b> be taken with the object of forming a Waikato Milk-suppliers Association or Union. We aie assurred by those who have discussed the matter that the motives which actuate them are not in the slightest degree hostile to the manufacturing firms; indeed ifc would be manifestly unwise if it were so. Large as the pecuniary stake which Messrs Reynolds and Co., and other firms, have put into the dairy business, it is as nothing when compared to the aggregate interests of their milk-suppliers, who have, consequently, more t> win or lose by the ultimate success or otherwise of the trade. It is probably the knowledge of this that is at the bottom of the movement. The argument used by the milk-suppliers is not unreasonable. Every class of labour and of capital is becoming united, and woiking in well-organised badies for their mutual protection. What among them all represents so much capital and daily labour as the business of the factory milk-sup-plier, yet no attempt has been made at any combination; that is, outside of their own respective districts. With what success the present movement may be attended, remains to be seen, hut we can quite believe that a strong Milk-suppliers Union could do much to improve their condition, and if worked upon sensible lines, be also of material assistance to the manufacturer.
