WELLINGTON NEWS.

(BY TELKGItAPH.— PRBSS ASSOCIATION). Wklun'gton", Last Night. Mil Hall has ottered to submit the tramway dispute to arbitration, and suggests that Messrs McLean and D.ithie, M. H.R.s, lie arbitrators, leaving them to appoint an umpire, if necessary. The baud contests have been fixod for October 20th, 21st and 22nd, and tho first prize will bo £100. A deputition waited on the Premier today relative to adding a new wing to the Hospital, at a cost of £0000. They asked (or assistance similar to Dunedin, viz., that the Government should advance the sum by way of a loan, the local bodies interested to provide interest and sinking fund. The Premier said the case was different from Dunedin. The Wellington Hospital had already been helped, but at Dunedm there was an old building falling to pieces. Letters were read from the house surgeon and medical staff, stating that the overcrowded condition of the Hospital was a scandal and positively dangerous. Mr Praser, Chairman of the Board said, if after the present warning something was not done the bard would be liable to prosecution. £1500 would shortly be due as insurance on the old Government printing office, ho asked for this now. The Premier slid they might have that sum. It was pointed out that half the £0000 would have to bo paid by the Government, if it were raised by rites, and a suggestion was made that, the Government should advance this, which with tho £1500 would leave only £1500 to be provided. The Premier did not know whether this could legally be done but asked tho deputition to put their request in writing and the matter would be laid before the Cabinet. Incidentally Mr Ballnnse said, in all probability a new Hospit il and Chiiri'abli! Aid Bill would be introduced but nothing was decided.

Mr Balliinco left for Wanganui this afternoon t) defend his libel action.
