THE COLONIAL BANK.

♦ A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. (UV TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION'). Dunedin, Last Night. At the Colonial Bank meeting, the Hon. (J. McLean congratulated the shareholders on the smoothness with which the institution had worked onward. The directors took some credit for this and for limiting the total of the British deposits to an amount which could not materially affect thein whatever lack of confidence in the colony might occur in England. He was happy to say there had been no lack of confidence as far as the bank was concerned, for the total of deposits had been easily maintained in England, while the colonial deposits kept increasing steadily. Tint the bank's business should go on steadily without disturbance must be gratifying, especially when they considered the financial disturbances that wera taking place in the neighbouring colonies and even in this colony, for they could not ignore the tact that considerable sums of English money are being called up and withdrawn from the calony to meet engagements coming due at Home, and which timid people were afraid to renew. That this nervousness would pass away he had little doubt, and people at Home come to believe that if any British colony was to be trusted, New Zealand was one of the first deserving of their trust. It behoved everyone, from the Government downward, who could contribute to this end to do so.
