AUCKLAND NEWS.
(nv TELEGRAPH. —-OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, Last Night. Tub Supreme Court was occupied all day with the case brought by the Customs Department against Messrs Sharland and Co., re the duty on Mother Seigel's pills. The case was unfinished when the court rose. The Mayor of Patea interviewed the Northern Railway League, and expressed the strongest sympathy of himself and the Patea burgesses with the objects of the league. This afternoon Tawhiao, the Maori King, came into town from Orakei in order to have an interview with Mr Cadman regarding some long-standing native grievances. The interview was held at the Government Buildings in Customs-street, and was of a private nature. No matters of importance were to be discussed, it being understood that the Government native authorities and Tawhiao should hold a conference at a future date, when all Tawhiao's complaints regarding land and the operation of the law with regard to native territory and surveys should bo fully gone into. Th 9 members of the New Zealand athletic team who go to England arrived from the South to-day. They met with a cordial reception.
