THE ELGINSHIRE.
*. —, — THE VESSEL ABANDONED. (by telegraph.—prkss association). TiMAsn, Last Night. The final attempt to tow off the Elginshire on behalf of the owners was a failure. The vessel was not moved one inch, and at six p.m. the tugs cast off, and notice was given of the abandonment. Capt. Dicehurst has taken possession f:>r the underwriters. The engineers and firemen have been re-engaged, and are keeping the refrigerators and pumps going. The vessel U not making much water to-day. Only a few hundred carcases of mutton were thrown overboard. They will try and save the meat by landing it and railing it to the various freezing works. It is reported, however, that the meat in the main chamber is tainted. After the discharge the tugs are to be put on again, and the present managers hope t> see the steamer afloat iaside 4S hours. A thousand people congregated to witness yesterday's pull by the two tugs and the Brunner. The Brunner made fast to a line from the mast tops, and caused a slight roll when the sudden strain was pnt on, but it was not the faintest pitch on the sea running fore and aft.
