SCENE IN A BANK.

An extraordinary instance of running amuck (says a London correspondent) occurred in the London office of a Scotch bank, not a stone's throw from the Royal Exchange, on New Year's Day. A young clerk turned up for duty as u-ual about ten o'clock. He promptly seized a ruler, and sit ahout belabouring the clerk at the next desk. This unhappy man went down with a fearful gash iu his head. The young madman, who had not recovered from the debauch of the previous night, then flew at other and dealt theui some dauiH-rous blows. The manager, one of thequietest of men hearing the uproar came from his room and the in furiatcd youth rushed at him—a rapid retreat and locked door saved tho manag. r. In the meantime someone sent for a policeman. The worthy constable was instantly assailedaud was .felled to the ground with one blow. Things now became serious, and the clerks reooveringjpresence of miud, disarmed the maniac, who was by orders of the manager, taken off iu custody. The prisoner who is only twenty-ftve was quite recently promoted from tho head office in Edinburgh to the London otiice and his conduct can be ascribed to nothing elso than the over-indulgenco of tho new year festivities. Tho gentleman whom he furiously assaulted is an invalid, aud doubts arc entertained as to his recovery. Under these circumstances, although there is a desire to spare tho young madman's friends, the case may have to come into the police court.
