CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Thr monthly meeting of the above Counci; was held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Present His Worship the Mayor (Mr Webber)' Councillors Priestly, Kirkwood, Roberts, Moisley, Hally, Bach and Bond. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and duly confirmed. Finance.—Overdraft at February 9th, £282 18s 7d; aocounts paid during the month, £88 lis 6d ; amount lodged during the month, £16 6d ; accounts passed for payment, £5 10s ; overdraft when accounts are paid, £350 16s 7d.
Works.—The Works Committee re ported that at a meeting of the committee held on February 22nd., Cr. R. Kirkwood had been elected chairman. It was further resolved to put a brick culvert between Lake and Kirkwood Streets, and also beween King and Grosvenor Streets. _The actual cost of these culverts will be £5 4s; tho cost of them if orected with timber would have been £3 9s. A set of 6 inch pipes will be putm the waterfcable from the building known as the Colonial Bank in Alpha Street to the corner of Victoria Street. Mortgage.—A mortgage deed was submitted for the approval of the Council by Mr J. Wilson.—lt was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee. Footpath.—Mr A. Bach, of the National Hotel, wrote tho Council a3 follows I respectfully beg leive to call your attention to the bad state of the wator-table and footpath in front of the National Hotel, the edge of the path being worn away, and in wet weather it is very slippery and dangerous, several people having had falls. I trust that the Council will see its way and do something before tho wet season commences. —Thi* matter was referred to the Works Committee to report upon. It is a question whether it would not bo better to continue the brick culvert from the corner of Kirkwood Street East instead of leaving an open drain as at present. An Improvement.—On the motion of Cr. Hally, seconded by Cr. Priestley, the Works Committee were instructed to have all new culverts erected with bricks and two-ineh kauri tops.—A quantity of suitable timber is to be rrdered. Leave op Absence.—The Town Clerk was granted leave of absence from the 14th to the 24th inst. Accounts. —Only one account waß passed for payment, viz, H. Preece, £5 10s, and the meeting then closed.
