Elmsley, Shepherd, KxHl.y ;.m.| Kusabs. Mr A. Armstrong, county wiginucr, was a.so in uttondiincH. , . ~ Ksgineeu's Report.—ln his monthly report the Engineer stated that the various contracts let at the last meeting of the council had been all tiken up. The contracts in hand i.re .11 being pushed on with a fair decree of speed. The grading near Mr Ryburn's, and the gravelling on tie Hamilton-Oliaupo mad near lt'.y;is , have been completed, while two or three others are just about finished. The Waipa bridge at Alexandra has been cloned as instructed. The Black bridge lias been lowered and repaired. On opening up the timber work, it was found that one of the dps and a considerable portion of the she .thing was man advanced state of decay. The old decking was used to replace the sheathing, and new timber laid foi the decking, caps, and hand rail. The decking on Willnnghbys bridge on the Harailton-Ngarimvahia r '»d la Retting very unsound, and will shortly have to be repaired. The report was received, and the engineer was instructed to get Willoughby's bridge repaired in accordance •with his report. „„,,,- ~ t Riding Accounts.—Tlie following statement of riding accounts was presented by the engineer :—Nowc-.stla : Aimunt ol vote, ,1174 : total expended to date, £302 lis 2d ; overspent, £288 lis 2d. Rangiaohia : Amount of vote, £123 ; total expended to date, £100 4s 9d ; overspent, £37 4s Od. Expended on bridges and culverts :—Newcastle, £W3l2s 7d ; Hamilton, £25 18s ; Pukekura, £357 3s lid ; Mangapiko, £62 7s 2d. License,-A renewal of Ins slaughtering license was granted to Mr R. J. Gibson of To Awamutu, on his complying with the usual form. RESEKVE.-Mr H. Yaf)s offered to lease the reserve lot 515 Alexandra, on tho following terms : To fence and clear the furze for the first year; after that £2 per year. Cr Finch moved that Mr Yates offer be accepted for seven years.-Seconded by Or Anderson and carried. ~,..„ ~ Bad Road.—Mrs M. Wright, of Harm! ton wrote drawing attention to the disagreeable state of the road to her house, and asked that something ho done as sh» had been paying rates for some years and had done considerable work on the road. Cr Exelby moved that notice be given to iVlr Jolly to clear the furze wn tho road, and that the District Engineer be requested to make tho railway crossing at the end of the road passable-Seconded by Or. Teasdale and carried. It was left in Or. Exelbys hands to find out the particulars as to the control of the road, and interview the Hamilton Borough Council as to whether they would assist in the work of clearing and making the road, and report at next meeting. ~ _ _. McNicol's Bridgk.—Mr I. Coates again asked the council to repair this bridge as requested by him. to allow of his traction engine crossing the bridge. The cost would not, he said, be as expensive as they thought.—The Engineer said that it would be useless to do anything to this bridge unless the stringers were replaced, which would not cost less than £10.—Cr. Teasdale moved that the bridge be put in proper repair. — Seconded by Or. Smith. — Or. Elmsley moved as an amendment, that permission be granted to do the work at his own cost.-Seconded by Cr. Fmch. T The amendment was carried, the voting being— For : Ors. Lang, Anderson, Finch, rihepherd", Elmslev and Exelby. Against : Crs. Teasdale, Kusabs ami Smith. _ Defaulters.—The Clerk was authorised to take proceedings against all those who are two years in arrears with their rates. Petition.—A number of ratepayers interested in the road from Melville's, gate to Offerson's corner presented a petition, asking that this road be opened, as it would supply a long felt want.—Cr. Fine.) said lie was in favour of granting tho prayer of the petition, and moved that the engineer inspect the road and report at next meeting. —Seconded by Cr. Smith and carried. Weston's Claim.—A claim from 1. fc>. Weston for compensation for land IA. In. IP, takon for a road in Ngarotn, and which has been before the Council on several occasions, was again brought up. The mattor was allowed to stand nver. BRIARS.— It was decided to get tho briars on the county road through tho Tuhikaramea Riding eradicated, Crs. Teasdale and Kusabs objecting. Alexandra Bridgk.—Messrs W. t>. Rutherford, G. Harper and Garmonsway waited on the Council and asked them to reconsider their decision as to closing the Alexandra bridge, by which great inconrenienco is caused to the people of Alexandra and the public in general.—The Chair man said that the Engineer had reported that the hridgo was unsafe, and a3 the Council had not the fraids ti replace it they had nothing else to do but to close it. —Mr Harper said that lie hud built the bridge 20 years ago, and had helped at all tho repairs sinc3 then, and he knew the state' of the bridge. It was as good now, if not bettor, than at any timo during the past ten years.—lt was pointed out that the bridgo had been closed to protect the Council, but if the rails were taken down and the bridge used they would not be responPr'opo3ED Conference.—ln accordance with the circular received at, last meeting, Cr Lar." and any other councillor .who could attend were appointed as delegates to attend the proposed conference to discuss matters of importance to County Councils. Finance.-The state of the various accounts at date was as follows, all being in credit:—Alexandra Outlying District, £20 2s 3d; Mangapiko Outlying District, £42 2s 10.1 ; Hamilton Outlying District, £27 Is Sd ; contractor s deposit, £40; general account, £103 7s Gd. Total £328 Allocation.—An allocation on the same basis as last time was granted, viz. :- Newcastle, £74; Tuhikaramea, £21 ; Hamilton, £G4 ; Pukekura, £143 ; Mangapiko, £83; Rangiaohia, £123. Fitzgerald's Swamp. — Cr. Shepherd drew attention to the stato of this piece of the Hamilton-Whatawhata Road. He suggested gravelling, unt the engineer said it would be better to improve tho drainage, which at present, however, was hardly practicable.—Cr. Shepherd moved that a coating of gravel be put on— Seconded by Cr. Teasdale and carried. Smith, and carried. Water Supply.—Cr. Anderson ioporte< that in company with Cr. Elmsley and th engineer ho had inspected the creek at th railway bridge, and there was sufhcien water theic to drive a ram to give a wate Hiipply for Ohaupo. A small dam wool be necessary to pi\« the fall for the dam —The engineer said that to place a.ram piping, erect tanks and troughs tha would bo necessary would cost about froi i'looto £150.—1t was pointed out that thei were roads to the various lakes, and th engineer was instructed to inspect them an report as to the probable cost of openin them up. —
