DEFINITIONS OF NOTHING.

TO THE EDITOR. Sm.—Being dissatisfied with •'Gleaner's" definitions of " nothing " that vain glorious fraud who is masquerading in the garment of "Truth," favours us with the following extraordinary rendering of that abstract term :—" Nothing is the poem of a poetaster when the poetaster name is taken away." Now, Sir, accepting this as the only true and correct definition of the term under consideration, it follows that, it was out of "the poem of a poetaster" after "the poetaster's name" hai been " taken away that God created this mighty universe and all that lives and moves therein! yea verily '' nothing" is impossible to God or to His servant, "Truth." Having settled this momentous matter, your versatile correspondent, waltzes into "space and finally arrives at the conclusion that if everything were taken out of " a square foot of space, (or a hundred square miles, the area is a matter of indifference) that " uothtng would remain or in »tber words empty space is "nothing" and "nothing,"it will be remembered, is " the poem of a poetaster when the poetaster's name is taken away ! " This remarkable proposition will necessitate a reconsideration of the properties of matter and space, and must inevitably revolutionize all existing scientific ideas in regard to their relations to each other. How .vondrous is the wisdom of "Truth"!—l am, etc. Cosmopolitan.
