RAGLAN.

Shipping.—On Saturday last the Northern Steamship Company's s.s. Glenelg arrived with a cargo of grass seed for the Te Akau Station, and after discharging the same at the beach store, proceeded on her way to Onehunga. The cutter Coralie also arrived here late in the afternoon, and on Monday discharged her cargo, which was a very large one, including large consignments of grass seed for the various settlers who during the last few months have had a considerable area of bush fallen. Besides the usual shipments of cocksfoot and ryegrass, sheep fescue and other grasses are being introduced. Athletic Club.—The general meeting of this club was held in the Library. Raglan, on Saturday evening last, Mr A. L. Pegler in the chair. The report of the committee was considered, after which the rules were lead, and after discussion altered to suit the club. The following are the officers Mr R. C. Mathias, president; Mr Rendell, treasurer ; Dr. Bay, hon. secretary ; committee, Messrs Calvert, McPherson, Middlemass and Moon. Sports are to be held on St. Patrick's Day, for which a good programme of events has been drawn up, and a working committee appointed. The handicappers are Messrs Burton and Jerome; judges, Messrs A. Wallis and Sewell. The fee for members has been fixed —for honorary members, 5s par annum; members, 2s fid. Bush Fires —On Saturday the first of the bush fires seem to have been started in some parts, but it was not until Monday morning that firing commenced in earnest, when from the Te Akau side of the Raglan Harbour down to Mangati on the station side, and inland to beyond the Hot Springs dense masses of smoke were driven inland by the sea breezes blowing at the time.
