♦FROZEN MEAT. Messrs Henry S. Fitter and Sons report under date January Bth : — The supply of home-killed mutton has not been quite so heavy. Old ewes are not so plentiful, and Dutch mutton is almost over for the season. Live cattle-are fetching higher prices, and American beef has been arriving in shorter quantities, resulting in much better prices. Our anticipations of better prices with the new year have already proved correct; and although the stale condition of soinßof the New Zealand sheep may rot ml the improvement to some ex'.snt tor a short time, the demand is already improving, and prices are firmer all round. Best quality New Zealand sheep are still very scarce, and we are daily receiving numerous inquiries for them. We are very pleased to be able to report a docided improvement in the valuo ot New Zealand beef, and if the supply of American beef continues short, we hope to have still better news for th 6 next mail. Pigs are also making better prices. We would, however, remind intending shippers that pigs should be shipped only so as to arrive between October and May, as the pork trade falls off in the summer. To-day's prices are as follows :—Scotch sheep, por stono of Blb, 'Is Gd to 4s lOd ; Enelisli sheep, 4s 2d ti 4s (id ; Continental, .'is to 4s ; ewes, 3s 2d to 3s Gd ; Canterbury New Zealand sheep, 2s Sd to 2s lid ; Wellington New Zealand sheep, 2s Gd to 2s Sd ; Queensland sheep, 2s 2d to 2s 3d ; River Plate sheep, 2s 1(1 to 2s 2d : New Zealand beef, hindquarters, 2s 4d to 2s Gd ; New Zealand beef, fore-quarters, 2s to 2s 2d ; American boef, hind-quarters, oslOd t" 4s 4d ; American beef, fore-quarters, 2s Gd to 2s lOd ; English pigs, 3s Sd to 4s.
